TOPS WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS - 5/7/19
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Megan, Abigail, Bryce, Julianna, Dominique, and Stella!
Going forward, we will share pertinent and helpful articles, recipes, etc. that you may find helpful.
Below is an interesting article about the importance of play. From an educational standpoint, there are many valuable and crucial lessons to be learned through play. Socially, play provides different opportunities to interact with peers. Play also allows an age appropriate level of risk which provides children with opportunities to problem solve.
What does this have to do with swimming? Coaches are seeing children with weaker cores and coordination than in years’ past. There was a level of physical activity on playgrounds, and in backyards, which has been greatly reduced on today’s playgrounds (climbing trees, monkey bars, etc.) and in our daily lives. The lack of exposure to ‘play’ is felt in the classroom, in social situations, and in organized sports.
Play is crucial for children on so many levels. We thought you may find this article interesting.
