The TOPS coaches consider this the bare minimum, and we wish our swimmers to surpass this basic expectation.

TOPS believes that strong officiating is very important and provides vital feedback for swimmers. We have been blessed with great parents who have been awesome at officiating and have set the ‘Officiating standard.’ Stephanie D’Arcangelo has been in charge of our TOPS Officials, and will be retiring from those duties, as of next year. She has been our fearful ‘Officiating’ leader, and her example and commitment, these past years, have been greatly appreciated. Given that she is in her last year officiating, and she is more than happy to mentor any who wish to learn for her.
In order to continue level our expected level of excellence, we strongly recommending that our parents consider, not only officiating through SAL, but through USA Swimming. Through USA Swimming you will get excellent instruction and mentoring, which encompasses more than that which you will receive through SAL. Please strongly consider becoming a USA Official, which will provide you will many opportunities, at many meets. Again, you will be strongly supported and will receive mentorship.
7) WEBSITE- You have been receiving emails, from our webmaster, Lauren Keifer about re-registering on the new website. It is crucial that you register when requested. We need for you to re-register, on this new website, in order for us to set up billing, import times, and to enable you to commit to the upcoming SAL and USA meets.
UPCOMING SAL INVITE DEADLINES- PERK VALLEY FALL FEST – OCTOBER 7TH
NORTH PENN TROPHY MEET – OCTOBER 14TH
8) SAFE SPORT- We have received feedback that some are having difficulty getting into the USA Swimming to access the online Safe Sport training. We will investigate to see the potential issue. With that said, we will extend the deadline to this Saturday, Oct. 6th. On October 7th, we will do the drawing.
9) FORTHCOMING :
PARENT MEETING- No we have not forgotten about a parent meeting. We are trying to secure a facility in order to host the meeting. It will be 2:00 – New Parents / 3:00- USA/ 4:00- Returning Parents

TOPS WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS- 9/24/18
QUOTE OF THE WEEK: “Slow down, calm down, don’t worry, don’t hurry. Trust the process.” Alexandra Stoddard
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Coach Andrew, Chloe, Justin, Ryan, Austin, and Hannah!
We concluded our first week of training for the 2018-2019 swim season. Thank you for being patient with the learning curve and any hiccups or inconveniences that you may have experienced.
Coaches will be making training level determinations, this week.
Though we appreciate the parent’s effort and a swimmer’s desire to swim, we cannot permit a swimmer to swim at a different level due to individual conflicts (e.g. attend a family function, CCD, etc.). We wish we could accommodate, but our limitations do not permit us to do so. We understand that families have a lot on their plate, but TOPS cannot consider the personal requests, for doing so will set a precedent and impact the training of your swimmer and other swimmers.
Lastly, due to our limited pool time, we desire to use every minute we are afforded. It is very important for our swimmers and divers to be ready to jump into the pool when practice begins, vs. walking onto deck when he/she should be in the pool. It will be wonderful for our swimmers and divers to come early to practice, help set up, and stretch to ready themselves for their coaching.
Thank you, in advance, for understanding.
This Coming Weekend
We are not able to use the pool at Perk this Saturday, as initially planned. They need to use the facility for family day. We are awaiting a response from the Pottstown Athletic Center to see if we can use their pool. We will email everyone the accurate swimming training picture for this weekend. Coach Kristine will notify the divers of the practice schedule, if there are any changes.
SAL DUAL MEET SCHEDULE
We are still awaiting the dual meet schedule, but the dates are set. What we don’t know is who we will be swimming and where. As soon as this necessary information becomes available, we will notify you so that you can plan accordingly.
HERE ARE THE DATES OF THE DUAL MEETS- Dive Meets are the Friday evening before each dual meet:
11/3- Dual Meet #1 (Dive- 11/2)

Feb. 10th- Swimming and Diving “A” Champs
We have run out of Hans Paddles for purchase. If you need paddles, you may place an order using the Hans Paddles link on the TOPS home page. We are seeing a lot of different paddles than the ones that we recommend; some, too big for the swimmer. If we determine that they are too big, then we may ask the swimmer not to use the paddles.
Also, it is imperative that the swimmers have ample water for practice. Though they are in the pool, they do sweat and need to stay hydrated. We have had swimmers not have water, not feel well, and need to get out because of cramps.
REMINDER: We are still seeing equipment not labeled. All equipment needs to be labeled (snorkel, equipment bag, each fin, each paddle, kickboard). Also, swimmers should have a spare pair of goggles, in their equipment bag, in the event they have goggle issues. Lastly, if a swimmer needs to use an inhaler, that inhaler should be with the equipment bag; not in the locker room. Many thanks.
You have been receiving emails about our website change and directions as to what to do. It is our goal to have our new website fully implemented by Oct. 1st. Please follow the directions from Lauren Keifer, our webmaster. She has been putting MANY hours into making this switch over as seamless as possible. Thank you, Lauren, for all you are doing.
Once you have received an invitation to join the new website, you will see event listings for your swimmer. Please commit to the invites or USA meets.
We are in the final week before our Swim Outlet gift card drawing. The Parent Safe Sport only takes about 10 min., and the 12 and over Safe Sport takes about 20 min. The 6-11 yr. old is an activity booklet. Though we are not making it mandatory, we highly recommend it in order to ensure that we all are on the same page and have the same understanding. Thank you to all who have completed the online Safe Sport training!!
Many spirit wear items have been made available for parent and older swimmers on Swim Outlet. We have not offered spirit wear, through Swim Outlet for our younger swimmers. There will be a package, available, shortly, for purchase (sweats, shirt, etc.). After that is made available, we will then add different items for purchase on Swim Outlet.
Parent Meeting – We will have separate parent meetings
1) New Parents
2) USA Swimming
3) Returning Parents
We will email you when we have secured a date and location.

*No parents are permitted to go into the locker rooms at any training facility. There are posted bathrooms for parent use at each facility.
*At the Pottstown Athletic Facility there are only four family rooms for our use. We recommend that your swimmer change at home.
*Please read the TOPS LOCKER ROOM POLICY, available on the weekly announcement email and on our website under the Parent and Swimmer tab. It is vital that all are aware of locker room expectations (coach, swimmer, and parent).
*MANDATORY CODE OF CONDUCT
ATHLETE CODE OF CONDUCT: In the weekly announcement email is the Athlete Code of conduct that we require our TOPS swimmers to print, read, and sign. Please bring the Code of Conduct to the first day of the swimmer’s practice.
PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT: Also, in the weekly announcement email is the Parent Code of Conduct that we require all of our parents (mom and dad) to print, read, sign and return. This code of conduct can be handed in with your swimmer’s code of conduct. Both parents (guardians) can sign the same form.
FYI…The TOPS Coaches have a code of conduct that they must print, read, and sign. This across the board measure ensures that we are ALL on the same page concerning expectations and conduct.
Safe Sport is an extension of our Code of Conduct, in order to ensure a safe environment for our swimmers. We ask that our swimmers, and parents, complete the Safe Sport Online training. You can access this free training by clicking on the appropriate Safe Sport Event link on our TOPS Website. You have till Sept. 30th to complete the online training. Those that have completed the training, will be eligible for a drawing for a $10.00 Swim Outlet gift card. Thank you to all those who have completed the training thus far.
Henry Phillips is a new 14 and under swimmer who resided in the Collegeville/Royersford area. He will be training at The Hill School. His family would like to carpool. Please contact Jennifer Phillips at firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help get Henry to and from practice, that would be fantastic.
OFF THE DECK
Though we assist your swimmer in developing his/her swimming skills, we value the accomplishments of our swimmers outside of swimming. If there is a noteworthy accomplishment that you would like to share, please email Coach Catherine at email@example.com.
Newly posted OFF THE DECK ACCOMPLISHMENT
Caraline R. Young has been inducted into the St. Thomas Aquinas Chapter of the National Honor Society, Lancaster Catholic High School. Congratulations, Caraline!
FORTHCOMING- Coach ofthe Week- Coach Bill
We had a wonderful morning with the majority of our TOPS USA Swimmers. We had numerous guest speakers and focused on a number of different, yet pertinent topics (team building, training plan, goal setting, focus on process, mental strength, nutrition, dryland, and age group and college swimming).
Thank you, parents, for dropping off your swimmer and then joining us for the last half hour of the meeting.
We are thankful to Fredrick Mennonite for hosting and providing lunch for us. Also, thank you to our presenters; Shannon Stephani, Claudia Baumert, Coach Nikki Whitlock, Matt Cubbler, Coach Jack, Coach Kathy Cook and Michael Hay.
The link to the Mental Toughness questionnaire may have been faulty. It can be accessed from the weekly announcement in your email. Swimmers, please take this questionnaire and see your personal results.
BLUE EAGLE MEET AND NORTH PENN DISTANCE MEET DEADLINE- The deadline for these meets in Sunday, September 16th.
Why so early? Sadly, so many of these meets fill quickly, therefore, we need to commit early in order to reduce our chances of being shut out of them.
Swimmers, remember what Coach Bill said at the USA Meeting:
1) Swimmers are to choose their own events
2) Choose no more than three events per day.
*Choose an event in which you have not done in a while or have not done at all
- Choose an event you believe is your strength
- Choose an event for fun.
UPDATED TOP 10 LC TIMES
The updated LC times have been updated, and were shared, earlier, but there is an addition.
Congratulations to Chris Guiliano for earning the number one spot in the 50 free, 100 free, and the 200 IM for 15 yr. old Middle Atlantic swimmers.
